JSNA can provide training that will answer the questions you have about machine safety and whether or not your company is in compliance. Properly designed and installed safety systems and components not only protect your employees from injury, but will also prevent your company from experiencing the consequences of being non-compliant that could include substantial fines and the shut-down of manufacturing equipment.
Current Safety Seminars
Understanding Control Reliability
This seminar will cover the subject of Control Reliability as it pertains to National and International Standards. Reference is made to various sections of NFPA 79, as well as European Standard EN954 and ANSI B11.19. The importance of having control reliable circuits and protective elements will be discussed in detail.
Understanding General Machine Guarding
Training will detail the proper method for hazard identification and choosing the right safeguarding element for each application. Coverage of various sections relative to machine safeguarding standards such as ANSI B11.19 and CSA 432-94 are reviewed. Limitations and appropriate methods of installing light curtains, laser scanners, safety mats, relays and other devices are discussed. The CFR Part 1910 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry - Subpart 0 Machinery and Machine Guarding will be reviewed as appropriate.
Lockout/Tagout Procedures
This training explains the proper method of determining when lockout/tagout is necessary and how to accomplish it. It stresses the importance of placing a piece of equipment or machine into a zero mechanical state prior to servicing or programming the equipment. The seminar includes many of the common issues found within a facility relative to the lockout program and procedures. Real life examples of failure to lockout will be reviewed with the group.
Meeting RIA Robotic Standards
This seminar covers the RIA 15:06 Robot Standard that was published in June 1999. Training will include reviewing clauses 1 through 14 and the application of protective elements to the robot and robotic system. Discussion and review will be conducted in detail relative to the prescribed method of safeguarding, as well as the comprehensive risk assessment.
Risk Assessment & Risk Reduction
Training includes reviewing the various types of risk assessments such as the RIA 15:06-1999 Clause 9, as well as ANSI B11.3 Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction, A Guide to Estimate, Evaluate and Reduce Risks Associated with Machine Tools. Discussion will cover how to set up a risk assessment team, the process involved in new equipment buy offs, who should review equipment modifications, and the process of ensuring on-going compliance to the relevant standards and codes.
Occupational Safety and Health Standards (United States)
Seminar will include conducting a review of 29 CFR Part 1910, Subpart 0, Machinery and Machine Guarding. Case studies relative to the possible outcomes due to the lack of machine guarding will be presented. The concept of "AUTO" - Around - Under - Through - Over, when dealing with machine safeguarding and protective elements such as light curtains, safety mats, laser scanners, etc., will be reviewed.
Occupational Health and Safety Act (Canada)
Training includes a review of the internal responsibility system as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Discussion of the responsibilities placed on owners, employers, workers, supervisors, constructors, suppliers, engineers and architects. Pre-Start Health and Safety Review (Canada)
This seminar will interpret the Section 7 Pre- Start Health and Safety Standard, with specific information relating to "New and Modified Equipment" found in Table 1 of Section 7. The standard requires that a professional engineer review the equipment before the apparatus is put into operation. The training details the process of how and when to decide a Pre-Start Health and Safety Review is required as well as the various standards and codes that may be applicable to the review.
